Melissa and I have been discussing this Pushing Daisies-inspired pie for weeks, and we finally made it today. Despite an overnight oversight, awkward substitutions, and double cornstarch, it turned out so well! The crust was the best part.

Behold, the pear with Gruyère [baked into the crust!] pie:
 I'm tempted to lean towards favoring the making of baking mistakes, because they are definitely really funny in the moment, and it's difficult to make the same mistake twice, as you are so cognizant of it after the fact.

P.S. I love that Wikipedia describes the flavor of aged Gruyère as "more assertive." Excellent.

    Pushing Daisies always makes me want to make pie! Also, Snow White when the little birds come and help her. :)
