Friendsgiving 2015


This year we celebrated the fourth annual Friendsgiving! It was the most bittersweet yet with Laura in SF and Quinton in DC; luckily we Facetimed with both of them and they made the rounds saying quick hellos.

Last year at Friendsgiving, we had upwards of 50 guests (which in our tiny house was no small feat!), but this year at Stacia's was a smaller crowd, mostly composed of original founders/guests plus the few added spouses. Adrienne moved to Arizona at the end of the summer and was in town for the weekend! Perfect timing, I may say. Happy Friendsgiving!

Friendsgiving 2014


Friendsgiving was forever ago but I was looking for these photos the other day and turns out I never posted any of them. 

I am feeling a little nostalgic as last night we had a going-away party for Adrienne, and Quinton showed up as a surprise guest all the way from Washington, DC!!!!! (There can never be too many exclamation points at the end of that sentence.) All in all it was a very bittersweet night and it has been a bittersweet couple of weeks. I remind myself often of a favorite verse in the Doctrine and Covenants 130:2. Change it hard and it is not always welcome, but I am grateful for the times in the past when it has been followed with trips to visit and group texts and happy memories in between.


We never got an exact guest count at this Friendsgiving, but it was A LOT. It made my heart burst a little to have our little house bursting with all of our dearest people. Until next year (this year!).

Friendsgiving 2013

Friendsgiving began last year when Adrienne received a free turkey from her employers and we decided to celebrate Thanksgiving with a group of our friends. Hooray for the second annual Friendsgiving! (I really love when our traditions continue despite the inevitable nomadic ways of college students and recent graduates.)

I'm thankful for dear friends and this evening which was the very best.
(And for the puppy who joined us.)

My dear friend Lauren and I have created a reputation for ourselves. We threw a fall party in October, and last weekend we continued the seasonal tradition with a winter party that had an even better turnout and response. I have come to realize that I enjoy throwing parties because doing so involves several elements that I love: making food, music, and friends. I think these parties in particular have been great because they've allowed us to combine our different groups of friends.

The week before Thanksgiving, Adrienne got a free turkey from her work which we cooked for "Friendsgiving" and we had an almost complete Thanksgiving dinner! This was especially timely since Emily and I went to San Francisco for Thanksgiving, so we were able to participate in traditional Thanksgiving festivities beforehand.




I need to be better at taking photos during these parties, but I always come away with at least a few funny blurry ones on my phone (such as Adrienne with an indian corn headdress at the fall party and Adrienne drinking hot chocolate and fogging up her glasses at the winter party. in other words, lots of silly photos of Adrienne).

(I don't have a good photo, but we made these chocolate and peanut butter acorns for the fall party and they were a hit. Thanks, Martha.)

(Also the idea of butcher paper with a seasonally inspired question "What do you love about fall?" and "What do you love about winter/Christmas?" is reminiscent of my and my sisters' childhood birthday parties, where my parents would roll out butcher paper on the table and give us drawing materials)
