pretty in pink

[the sunset in Issaquah, WA after Amy's wedding reception on Saturday night]

It started to rain 15 minutes before the [outdoor] reception started, much to our dismay. The rain quickly let up, however, and the lingering clouds made for a beautiful sunset. It was perfection.

thunderstorms

I found these forgotten photos from last summer in a draft that I never posted. This was a rather memorable New York minute of running through the deserted streets in the pouring rain with thunder booming around us. And the top photo of Lauren makes me laugh so hard.

ps Emily wrote this post of things to do in NY. love.

—Giovanni Verga, Nedda, p. 11-12

This quote has been sitting in a draft in my email for months, ever since I read the short story Nedda in my Italian literature class last semester. I can't bring myself to translate it, A. because it's a really difficult passage and B. because any translation of mine would not even come near to replicating this evocative description. I love the universality of written descriptions of rain and weather; we've all been the one to sit at the window and look into the drizzle, lamenting the day's plans that must now wait until sunnier weather.

Well, don't quite go away—please just turn into snow. A little bit might be nice.

P.S. Don't you just love this snowstorm card?

quanto mi fa felice la pioggia!

The last few days have really felt like fall to me because it's gotten colder and it has been rainy. How I miss the weather that comes with a humid climate! Today was a perfect day, because I spent the afternoon alone in my empty apartment with our porch door open to let in the cool rainy air.

I love when the clouds swallow those mountains.

paris

I came home from Italy by way of Paris and London (I spent five days in each). I visited Paris first and instantly fell in love with that city. It was such an inspiring place to be and I loved all of the aspects of the city—the food, the people, the architecture, the cultural treasures, the transportation, the language. I also took a lot of photographs...so there might be several posts that follow this one.

My hotel was in a very pretty residential area of the 7th arrondissement (Paris is split into 20 numbered districts of that name), which is just below the Seine and home to the Eiffel Tower. I loved walking around and exploring the streets near the Champ du Mars (the park at the base of the Eiffel tower) and stopping in small local bakeries for breakfast every day.
One of my favorite things about Paris was that the city had such a specific feel to it; the blue slate rooftops and grey buildings with metal grilles and pink flower boxes were quintessentially Parisian.
rainy Paris as seen from the Centre Georges Pompidou—the weather was perfect while I was there; it was rainy and cool for all 5 days.

it's my last day in nj, and a bittersweet one. i'm not done packing, but i got to spend a lot of time with my family, and see my best friends (actually, we sang this song together at church) before we all go our separate ways again for school.

it was such a rainy rainy day.... i sat in the car for a few minutes till the rain let up a little before i ran inside after church. i just love the random patterns of raindrops on the car windows!
