Paris, je t'aime.
Hooray for taking off work to go to Paris for the weekend (pour le deuxième ou troisième fois), hooray for two best friends who look like sisters (and whose real sisters even think they look like sisters), hooray for an early flight from Geneva to Paris (which may have resulted in several purchases of Coke products the rest of the day), and hooray for plane croissants (which are far better than any to be had on our own continent).
Hooray for a room with a view, for the late afternoon sunlight that glows on the cobblestone streets, for le métro, and for la tour Eiffel that sparkles on the hour.Hooray for the magical, beautiful city that is Paris.
. . .
During the trip-planning stage, we talked about where to go. Amsterdam? Berlin? Prague? Paris? All worthy and exciting destinations, but as we narrowed our options and considered the distances involved, we thought, why not go to Paris even though we have both been before? "Paris is always a good idea."
I was talking on the phone to M yesterday and we were talking about books, and how it was not silly to have lugged them across the country to our current and respective states of residence, because we love to read them and refer to them and flip through them if something reminds us of something we read once. There is such a pleasure to be had in rereading.
Revisiting is no different. I fell in love with the city of Paris on my first visit two years ago, and this time around was perfect. We repeated certain Parisian experiences, ate delicious food for days, and experienced some sights and parts of the city that were new to both of us. The circumstances of my previous trip to Paris made way for some particular experiences, and this trip I learned other lessons. Paris, je t'aime.
(M, thanks for sending your airport insta. merci mille fois.)
