trendsetter
At the architectural studio where I am interning, they have an extensive design library which is chock-full of the types of Italian design periodicals and books that I love. Yesterday, I was looking at a few issues of Domus from the mid-90s and it was really interesting to see things like the following pieces and products juxtaposed:
the former: some pieces that could easily appear in any current design periodical, and the latter: it screams Memphis Postmodernism. Reading through the whole magazine, I noticed these juxtapositions appearing again and again; some interiors or furnishings had such a classic, timeless feel, while others clearly reflected the design trends of the 1990s in Italy.
It makes me wonder to what degree I am a product of the times that I live in, how easily I am sucked in by passing trends.
